Altus Swim Coach, Linda Wiginton was inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Saturday, July 22, 2023, an honor earned from a lifetime dedicated to the student-athletes of Altus High School.

“Coach Wig” as she is affectionately known, began the swimming program at Altus High School where she still coaches today.

Over her 42-year career, her teams have earned 4 Boys Team State Champions and 7 runner-up titles, and 12 state relay titles. Coach Wig has coached numerous swimmers including 33 All-State Swimmers and 18 individual state champions. Coach Wiginton is a 7-time Oklahoma Swim Coach of the Year, and in 2019 she was named a 2019 Outstanding Service Award Winner by the National Swim Coaches Association. In 2016 the community of Altus honored Coach Wiginton by renaming the city pool the Linda Wiginton Aquatic Center.

Although the titles and accolades are impressive, it is her heart for kids and her love for others that people remember most about Linda.

In addition to coaching, Linda also taught English for Altus Public Schools. She and her husband Larry raised two sons, Chad and Dallas.
