Orley Andy Tipton, 93, Altus, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024 at the English Village Manor.

Orley was born on August 18, 1930 in Altus, Oklahoma to Andy and Frances (Lawson) Tipton. He grew up in Altus and graduated from Altus High School in 1949. After graduation, he worked for a local house moving business.

Orley enlisted into the US Army in 1950 and served in the 245th Heavy Tank Battalion during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953 and received numerous medals including the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), Korean Service Medal with 1 bronze star, and the United Nations Service Medal. After moving back to Altus, Orley worked for the gas company until a job with the United States Postal Service came about. He would go on to work for 34 years at the post office before retiring. He married Betty Jo Sanders on July 1, 1985 in Altus, Oklahoma. Orley was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus where he sang solos and in the choir.

He enjoyed raising horses and building different items.

Orley was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Neoma (Allen) Tipton in 1969; two sons, David Wayne Tipton and Sammy Michael O’Neal; a daughter, Robbie Clay Tipton; and a brother, Ernest Tipton.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Tipton, of the home; a son, Randy O’Neal and wife, Lynette; a daughter-in-law, Barbara O’Neal; six grandchildren, Tyler, Todd, Trey, Travis, Jennifer, and Amy; and many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at the Lowell-Tims Chapel with Rev. Doug Altom officiating. Burial will follow services in the Altus City Cemetery under the care of the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory.

The Tipton family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at the funeral home.
