Brainiacs named to Academic All State team


The Altus Public Schools Board of Education recognized Michaella Reed (shown here) and Tyson Vernon for being named to the 2020 Oklahoma Academic All State Team. The team is made up of the top 100 students in Oklahoma based on their ACT scores, their GPAs and other criteria. Reed scored a 35 or her ACT; a 36 is a perfect score. Each Academic All State selection receives a $1,000 scholarship and a medallion. The school board recognizes student achievement at each meeting.

Altus 5th grade students who placed in the state archery tournament were recognized during the March 9 Altus Public Schools Board of Education meeting. The was the second year of the program and the team qualified for the national tournament. The meeting took place before most people had heard of “social distancing.”

Members of the 6th grade Archery Team were also honored for placing at the state meet and qualifying for the national tournament.

Altus High School girls state swimming championship qualifiers were honored during the March 9 school board meeting.

The Altus High School boys swim team hoist the runner up trophy after placing second in the state class 5A championships. The Altus Board of Education recognized their achievement at the March 9 meeting.

After finishing as a runner-up three years in a row, Cabe Dickerson finally won a state championship in the 220-pound weight class. Dickerson was recognized at the Altus Board of Education meeting on March 9.
