Darill Lilden Leverett was born on a cotton farm west of Duke, Oklahoma on March 2, 1933, and died on March 3, 2024, in Altus, Oklahoma. Darill was the oldest son of Amos and Annie Leverett and was proud of his southwest Oklahoma roots. No matter where he was, he was not shy about approaching a total stranger and saying “Hi, I’m Darill Leverett from Altus, Oklahoma.”

Five years after Darill was born his brother Lynn Leverett came along and Darill and Lynn remained brothers and best friends throughout their lifetime. Darill graduated from Altus High School with the class of 1951 and while in school, began dating Janelle Austin. Darill and Janelle attended Southwestern College in Weatherford, Oklahoma together and eventually married. They enjoyed sixty-two wonderful years together before Janelle passed in 2017.

While married Darill and Janelle raised two sons, Joe and Brad who they were very proud of. But everyone knew they were even more proud of their grandchildren once they came along. Sarah (Leverett) Charbonnet, Austin Leverett, Travis Leverett, and Holly (Leverett) Roche were their Pampa’s greatest joys in life. Darill was the consummate family man who rarely missed a sporting event if one of his kids, grandkids, or great-grandkids was participating.

Darill was a long-standing, faithful and active member of the First Methodist Church in Altus. He and Janelle recognized the value of raising their family in a faith-filled community and for 62 years they rarely missed church or a church-sponsored event. Darill was also community minded and at one time or another, served as a member of the Altus City Council, Jackson County Memorial Hospital Board, Western Oklahoma State College Board, and the Altus Military Affairs Committee. On behalf of the citizens of Altus, Darill attended over fifty installments of the legendary Quail Breakfast in Washington D.C. He attended his final one in 2019 at the age of eighty-six.

Darill is lovingly survived by his sons, Dr. Joe Leverett and wife Kim, Brad Leverett, and wife Robin; grandchildren, Sarah (Leverett) Charbonnet and husband Cameron of Dallas Texas, Austin Leverett and wife Jenny of Altus, Texas, Travis Leverett of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Holly (Leverett) Roche and husband Josh of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Ben Rett, Shepherd and Carver Charbonnet, Cooper and Luke Leverett, and Leo Roche.

Darill is also survived by his best friend and brother, Lynn Leverett and wife Paula of Abilene, Texas, and numerous nieces, and nephews whom he was very fond of, including; Hersha Evans and Nancy Evans and husband Mike of Jupiter, Florida, Shelly Jones and husband Sheldon of Lemoyne, Pa, Tony Austin of Dallas, Texas, Jay Leverett and wife Doris of Amarillo, Texas, Lisa Rhodes and husband Ed of Abilene, Texas, Chris Leverett and wife Kelly of Plano, Texas, Cousin, Luene Lane of Canyon, Texas, Cousin, Jo Hickman and her children, Brad and Brenda of Fort Worth, Texas.

Darill was also blessed to have the best care givers one could ask for and the Leverett family is so appreciative of the loving care provided by the Tamarack Retirement Suites, Vonda Fields, and Lisa Tinsley.
