Joe Milton Funkhouser, 96, of Hobart, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2024, in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was born on February 5, 1928, to Paul David and Ida May (Smith) Funkhouser in Hobart, Oklahoma. Joe grew up and attended school in Hobart, graduating from Hobart High School in 1946.

He married Charlotte Neal on July 20, 1952, to this union were born three daughters; Deborah, Sue, and Lezlie. Joe attended Abilene Christian University for a short time.

He joined the United States Air Force in 1950, serving four years. Joe worked as a Car Salesman for George Caudill Motor Company and as a Realtor in Hobart. Joe also owned and operated Hobart Nursery and Floral.

When Joe wasn’t working in town, he was farming, growing wheat, alfalfa, and cotton. When you see the red bud trees on King Mountain, think of Joe, he went up in a helicopter and dropped tons of seeds so the trees would grow. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include: Children: Deborah Colhouer & husband Gary, Headrick, OK, Sue Henthorn, Altus, OK, Lezlie Wright & husband Doug, Hobart, OK Grandchildren: Tonna Flanagan & husband Brian, Arnett, OK, Sandy Murphy & husband Jimmy, Altus, OK, Michael Wright, Blair, OK Great Grandchildren: Taylor, Tristen, Taryn, Cherry, Jimmy, Marshall, Makiah, Maverick, Maci, and Kamden Great-Great Grandchildren: Rhett and Riajo Survived by a dear friend and companion, Dixie Schmidt. For the past 13 years they made each others latter years of life much happier.

Numerous Nieces, Nephews, and other family members.

Preceded in death by his Parents: Paul and Ida Funkhouser, Wife: Charlotte Funkhouser, Grandson: Chad Colhouer, Great-Great Grandchild: Reece Beck, and Sisters: Melba and Letha.
