Body

Shirley Joyce Conner, 72, passed away in Norman on February 14, 2024. The daughter of Robert James and Joyce Lafern (Carey) Schlecht, Shirley was born on July 5, 1951, in Altus, Oklahoma.

Shirley grew up in Altus and was a 1969 graduate of Altus High School. She married Loyd Ray Conner on November 17, 1972, and they were married for 51 years. She was a member of the Thomas Street Church of Christ in Altus. Shirley and Loyd moved from Altus to Blanchard in 2004 and have made it their home since that time. Shirley worked as a legal secretary at a bank for several years, but before that she also worked at the tag agency and was a secretary at a finance company.

When her daughters were younger, they raised and showed sheep, pigs and cows. Maybe this is where it started, but Shirley was an animal lover and loved all kinds of animals. She was also a big OSU football and Thunder basketball fan. Shirley enjoyed watching college football, reading, working word puzzles, playing games and cards and especially loved watching game shows on TV. She liked going to concerts and movies. Shirley has battled cancer for the last 2 ½ years; a battle she fought with courage, strength, and tenacity. She absolutely loved being a grandma to her three grandsons and spending time with them.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Brenda Schlecht.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Loyd Conner of Blanchard; two daughters, Brandy Glover and husband Stephen of Mustang and Cindy Hernandez and husband Fernando Ivan of Blanchard; three grandsons, Theodore Glover, Gabriel Hernandez and fiancé Avery Rice, and Xavier Luke Hernandez; sister, LaQuita Blankenship and husband Hank of Centralia, Missouri; brother-in-law, Butch Conner and wife Lisa of Friendship, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and other loving family members and friends.

Funeral service was held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the Eisenhour Funeral Home Chapel in Blanchard, Oklahoma. Burial followed in the Newcastle Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard. Online obituary and guestbook are available at www.eisenhourfh. com.
